Snagged a 8 shot 327 Blackhawk
« on: February 11, 2010, 05:06:01 AM »
Traded for 8 shot 327 Blackhawk last weekend...  Expecting it to arrive today.  Planning to change to a Bisley grip frame...  Ordered 500 pieces of new brass to get started.  Need to order a Bowen target rear sight and install a patridge front..  Pics soon.

Awesome, be sure to post some pics and let us know everything about it.  I have been checking them out and I think that I may have to pick one up.  I know that you traded for it but did you trade a private seller or was it a dealer?  If it was a dealer then what was the list price?  I am just curious b/c I am trying to find out what a FAIR price would be instead of just seeing the overpriced stuff online.

Almost seems like ordering brass and rolling your own is the only option out there.
I'd love to score a 327 in a small double action, j frame size, to pack around.
As it is right now all I have is a s&w 32 h&r mag. The extra horse power would be nice.
Having a Blackhawk in this caliber would be an awesome hunting sidearm.

Edited to add; I just checked rugers site and low and behold they do have it in a gp100.
I realize it's off topic but thought I would add it anyway for anyone interested.

I honestly hope that Marlin or maybe even Rossi decides to put out a slick feeding lever action in this suped up .32 caliber.  That would be truly awesome in my book.

I have never been a big ammo buyer...  More of a brass, bullets, and powder kind of Guy..  ;)
FWIW Freedom Arms  has new primed brass for $109/500...  I think they are at the end of their last shipment so don't be too concerned if they don't have any when you call.. They will have more...
Personally looking for bullet weight to stiffle enough velocity to eliminate the need for a gas check.  Working with Veral to decide what I need...
Hodgdon has a full page of loading data on their web site..

Looking at my Marlin 32 Mag and 32-20 looks to me like the parts are sitting at Marlin waiting..

Let us know how she shoots...especially with Veral involved.  I think I'm gonna have to do a little work on that extra cylinder for my Buckeye.  Then I could compare 32-20 and .327 out of the same gun. ;D

Down to the short rows with a new bullet mold for my 327. Looking like we will try a .313 FN PB 130 Grain Bullet in a four cavity mold from LBT.... Veral says the nose will be .090 smaller than the bullet. As usual pics will follow when the mold arrives...

One of the 4 cavities in the LBT mold will be cut for a GC base...  Brass arrived early in the week..  Gun Arrived today...  Tomorow after work I'll be in a mad frenzy to get to the loading bench...  Nothing in the shop but JHPs but they will do for now... Hodgdon has a page full of 327 loading data on their web site... Little bitty bullets with 327 cases full of H110..... ;D

Hello
I had my S&W Model 16-4 converted to .327 Magnum by Hamilton Bowen. It came as a .32 H&R Magnum so all he had to do was lengthen the chambers in the cylinder. I took it the following day and worked up a load using A Speer 90 Grain Hollow Point bullet and Accurate Arms Powder. It gave excellent results so Two days later I took it Deer hunting with me. At 7:55 AM This Wild Cat showed up and I shot it at 35 Yards through the chest & One shot Piled it up. It is currently Being mounted and the Guy doing the full Body mount said it was the largest one he had ever seen in over 150 Wild Cat Mounts. A Local Game Officer told me that this Cat was a mixed breed not all Bobcat with it's Round larger style head and Larger body mass. It is also Missing the black hair Tuff's on it's Ear tip's and Cheeks seen on typical Bob cats and it's head is much more round like a Mountain Lion Mix. It tipped the scales at 41 Pounds dressed out, so this Cat weighed well over 50 Pounds live weight. The .327 Magnum is One hot Little round and not Your Daddy's typical .32 caliber hand gun and this round Plain Kick's Azz. Check before having any existing cylinders converted in this caliber as it has Very High pressures compared to any other .32 caliber choices out there, Therfore Older cylinders will not be able to with stand the extra High Pressures of it...Hammerdown

Hello Loyd & Justin
The size of this Cat is not common in the state of Tennessee as most run around 30-35 pound range and this one weighed 41 dressed out, so it is my feeling he weighed around 50 Pound's live weight. The ears are definatly different than any other Bob Cat's I have seen,  and he is also Missing the black hair Tuft's not only on his ear's but on his cheeks. That was the reason Two Tennessee Game commision officers felt this cat was mixed with a mountain Lion along the way as he has the face features more of a Mountain Lion than he does a Bob Cat. Two Months after I shot him, I was back in that same area, and saw a Mountain Lion moving across a hay lot late in the day. Sadly I did not have a Rifle with me, or his Picture would be in this thread as well, and perhaps that cat is how this one came to be ? Hammerdown

Is it geneticly possible for a mountain lion to cross with a bobcat? I don't think so.
Big cat though, our central texas cats usualy don't compare, largest I have killed weighed about 25 pounds. And that was a big cat for around here. Might be because we have so many. I have killed 43 so far.

Hello Justin
Sure why Not, we have steep Hills here it isn't flat like Texas I guess anything can happen , but I tend to believe the game commision Guy's input who are in the woods every day unlike me. To me, it really does not matter what it was bred with it was a Life time shot and being done with a Pistol makes it even more unique to me...Most I have spoke with have taken them with a rifle at longer ranges and called them in, this one Just came into me...I had with me a rifle but it would have been easy to kill it that way, the pistol and caliber I used made it a challenge in my mind, I Haven't seen nor heard of many taken with  a handgun.....

Hello poncaguy
Go for it... ;D Nothing like having one in real close when you take it with a handgun. My Initial thought was, if I miss this Cat can be in my Lap in Two leaps. I made sure I Put it down fast and the .327 Magnum is more than capable for the Job...
