A bunch of little holes are easier to hide than one big one from a .22-250! I suppose if you wanted bare leather (not the tanned hide or fur) that the shotgun would not be nice. You'd see all the little holes. For hides/fur, I don't think it really matters that much. You'll have less sewing with a bunch of little holes too. This all assumes that you don't shoot the coyote at 10 feet (which we've had to do) when your shot pattern is more like a slug.
