Medina, OH letter to the editor
« on: January 23, 2010, 05:31:22 AM »
There is a letter to the editor in todays Medina Gazette which kinda got me frosted.  Can't find a link to it unfortunely though.  Some woman is complaining about the noise pollution from a range located in the River Styx Road area.  The range has been there for 30+ years, she's lived there for 3.  Guess who's gotta go.  Anyway, I'm not normally one for writing to a newspaper but this one got me.  What follows is my 'rebuttal'.

Regarding the recent letter concerning the shooting range in the River Styx area.  As long as this range falls within the current zoning for this area, as long as there are no illegal activities being conducted on this property and as long as the activities on this property are being conducted during reasonable hours of the day, I see no reason why this range shouldn't be allowed to continue to operate.
The writer states "Thirty years ago, this area of Medina County was largely undeveloped.  Now the shooting range is in a heavily populated and quickly developing area of the county."  My remedy to this, though not realistic, is to have the county buy the adjoining properties for a buffer zone or green space.  To close down this range because of the lack of foresight on the part of the township trustees, allowing building of residences within close proximity, is not right.
I equate this to someone moving into a house, located next to a working farm, during the middle of Winter and then when Spring arrives and the farmer is out spreading manure, complaining.  You can't do that, I don't like the smell!

If you know someone out in this area who shoots, you might want to encourage them to respond to this.

Kudos on taking the time to write in to them about that ridiculous complaint.  Any updates on what happened to the dispute?  It should be up to the prospective home buyer to research EVERYTHING about the location in which they are looking to move to.  I see farmers have had to put up signs that say "this is a farming area and could contain smells or sights that occur on a farm, this should be taken into consideration if you are looking to relocate to this area".

Maybe we should put signs up that says "This is America, we have second amendment rights, actions occur here that allow us to exercise our Constitutional Rights, this should be taken into consideration before you open your mouth and say something stupid.  If you do not agree with our Constitution, please move to Canada."
