Remington Safari Mausers

FWIW, in the CDNN catalog, they have the Rem Safari Zastava 98 Mausers, in .375H&H and .458Win, with controlled feed/claw extractors and laminated wood stocks for $499. Sounds like a good buy for a big bore rifle on the cheap. Good luck.

Now I'm just dreaming of an African safari/hunt.  It will probably never happen, but ......

$499 seems like a really good deal. I'd jump on it if I were an elk hunter, also.

I just purchased one and I was very impressed with the fit and finish, I'm not a huge fan of the open sight setup compared to my CZ 550 but at half the cost I'm very pleased. It's bedded with dual cross bolts, the action isn't butter smooth but will be fine with use. Since this rifle open sight setup isn't optimal I didn't bother with quick Detach rings. I plan on mounting a 2-7 power scope and to give it a whirl when the weather gets nicer.

I've looked one over as well....though for alot more than $499!  I hated the stock...IF...I got one, I'd do a different stock.  Heck of a buy though.....

They still have these rifles per their catalog.  I bought one in .375 H&Hand this is my experience so far.  Glass bedded with real lack of release agent.  Had to freeze it down and beat it out with a rubber mallet.  Without freezing it to below zero I don't know if it would have come out.  Adjusting the trigger down to 3 pounds and having the safety work properly took some trial and error and advice and reading but it is perfect at this point.  Shot ten rounds through it last week with reloads at starting levels.  61 gr Varget over 275 grain Hornady.  Last 5 shots grouped at 4 inches at 100.  Irons sights are definitely not the best and I shot the 5 shot group with a scope.  Will be trying some ladder loading technique to get better groups after I free float this barrel - take out the end pressure point and free it on one side from touching the barrel.  I can't complain for what I paid for this thing.  Figured I would buy one of these someday, but not this soon.  We actually have big bore matches at the shooting club and now I can participate in Nitro 1 class versus just watching.  This is the first magnum gun I have ever shot and my turkey gun and muzzle loader kick more, but then again I only shot this with the minimum powder load.  I would think with up to 75 grains of powder I might think differently.

I bought a 798 with a mauser action for $446 the other day in 308. Had a laminate stock, was nice looking. I was told Remington quit making them or at least importing them. Not sure about the big bores though.
