Bullet powder combo
« on: March 15, 2010, 05:17:53 PM »
I want to try new loads out of my CVA stagehorn. Just wanted to know what your guys favorite powder-bullet is. Right now I am shooting 100 grains . of Jim Shockey's gold and 250 grain shockwave bullets.

and how is that load shooting?

my cva staghorn really loved 80gr pyrodex rs and the 295gr powerbelt. very accurate load in the rifle.

That Shockey's gold is weak powder. If you have 209 primer ignition why not mover over to Blackhorn 209? The bullet you have is fine. I did a chronograph test with JSG powder a while back. I don't have the data right here but it was 100s(300+) slower than a comparable B209 charge AND very erratic. Yes I know speed isn't everything.

I would try less powder! Ain't nothin that can't be killed with 50 grains of BP.
