I got the gpr .54 day before yesterday. I shot 40 or 50 balls through it yesterday. But with thease old eyes and those weard sights it just ain't never gona work! I see where Lyman offers the 57gpr sights. Also the 16 and 37 hunting sights.Dose anyone have any experience with them? And how hard are they to install? I think I will like this gun if I can get it to shoot. Oh well I have the Hawken .50 zeroed in. So when the season opens next Sat. all is not lost.

I had a williams wgrs-ml peep sight installed on my hawken along with a taller front sight with flor. bead. will shoot a .490 round ball into 1 inch at 50 yds. load is 90 grains of pyrodex rs

Try 70 grains of 3f with pillow ticking, a 530 patched ball, and a liquid lube. It has worked on every 54 GPR that I have ever owned. Check your patches for cutting. I wear bifocals and the adjustable sight does well at 50 yards with the thick front sight. I had the 36/37 and I believe that I had to drill and tap one hole on the tang. Best of luck this season.

Lyman makes a really good set of sights for that rifle. They can be ordered from the factory and the rear is an adjustable peep type. The front is a hooded sight with inserts. I have the same problem that you do in seeing the sights( im 53) and found that the peep is a lot better for me. Good luck.........and stay safe......King

Charlie, the sights are very easy to install. The rear sight installs in the existing tang and uses a plastic adapter to maintain the correct angle. The front sight, the 17, is installed by tapping the old one out, and tapping the new one in. Total time should take you about 15-20 minutes.

The set makes aiming much easier. I also use the combination on my T/C Hawken, .40 and .50 caliber Green Mountain barrels.

I have a Williams front blade and a Lyman 57 rear peep with a merit adjustable aperture. Works great for target shooting but remove the aperture for hunting conditions.Cant see threw it in low light conditions and hard to pick up deer in heavy cover. I found removing the sight disc and just using the ring didnt affect accuracy much. Just have to make sure front pin is centered.Dennis, you said that there is a plastic adapter for the GPR to fit under the Lyman 57 rear sight.Do you know where one can be purchased? I just shimmed mine, it worked but it just doesnt look right.
