Just checked it out
« on: April 01, 2010, 08:27:13 AM »
There is a State owned shooting range about 7 miles from my house. There is a dumpster there and signs saying Clean up your mess please. No one does. It is a mess. It wouldn't surprise me if the State doesn't shut it down. Since i sold my house in the sticks and moved into town that is the only place i have to shoot. I have no intentions of cleaning up after these hogs. It would take 3 or 4 of us to do it.

If volunteers don't clean it up, the state probably will then close it. try to get some volunteers, maybe just do a little each trip. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

I go by there once a week. If i ever see a State guy there i will ask him what can be done. Most of the guys i used to shoot with have died. The guy i now shoot with is close to 70 and not in very good health. He sure can't help me. Old age has got me too. Don't think i can do it by myself.

Join a private range. Only state owned place by me is a police range. Pretty clean. Lot of rules. Prefer private.

 >:( :( :-\ anything it seems the public can get to is a pig sty...Our range is on game and fish land...must be open to the public..i wanted the guys to close it except when there is supervision....no dice...the president of our club said it must  be open, but24/7???anyway, we have trash like you would not believe...people shoot up bath tubs, computers, toilets, bottles, old tires..sicking...not only that but they shot holes with shotguns in the sides of the metal shed put up for a cover for the benches, then with rifles or pistols shot more holes , even shot back town town..it is only half a mile out I would guess..it is horrible every day some idiot drags his old tires out there shoots a few beer bottles off of them then leaves the mess for others...honestly, I don't think most of the people deserve the air they breath...

You're not from Ga. are you?  That sounds like local DNR/Corp of Engineers range.  I have on occasion backed my pickup up and hauled stuff off.  Now at least they have a dumpster there.

I help "police the brass" pretty regularly.

Clean it up, stack the trash at the entrance to block the way, and park your butt by the trash.  Extract $5.00 from every shooter that attempts to use the range in payment for your making it suitable for continued use.  Tell the State, when they most assuredly will come to remove you from your good works and money making idea, that they can take your place and earn the "Use Fee" if they keep the place clean.  Tell the State that they are getting your man-hours for free.  Otherwise, it is $75.00 per hour to haul trash and debris and they owe you for 3 days back wages.  I bet the local Judge would see it your way.  When someone shows up to shoot and attempts to haul in tires and their other trash, show them the exit.  There will be others that will see your good works and applaud your actions.   It could also be brought up as a Boy Scout Service Project.
