Baystate (H&R) 20g barrel swap question
« on: April 06, 2010, 06:27:45 AM »
My wife's grandfather has an old Baystate 20 gauge that I recently cleaned up for him. I have did a little research and found that it was made by H&R.    While cleaning I noticed that the barrel has some nasty looking pitting or erosion just beyond the chamber.  I am concerned that the barrel is unsafe, so:

1. what are my chances of finding a barrel that that will fit to replace the current tube?

2. What model of H&R would fit the receiver?

3.Could I fit a rifle barrel (more likely a pistol caliber carbine barrel say 45 lc or 357 mag) ?

thanks for the any info

The Bay State was made from 1916-1942, so the early barrels with the snap-on forend may work, Numrich has lots in stock, but they cost almost as much as a brand new modern Pardner, perhaps a call to Numrich will help if you don't get a more specific answer here.
