Rifle Mag article mentions 35 Whelen
« on: April 20, 2010, 07:29:11 PM »
An article in Rifle about the Freedom Group, owners of Remington, H&R, Marlin (and now Barnes Bullets!) mentions that the Handi Rifle will be chambered 35 Whelen!  I searched the forum, but didn't see anything recent.  True?  False?  (Sorry if this has been beaten to death somewhere already)

I hope so, even though I am guessing my shoulder is hoping it isn't true........

You guys just had to go and start this, didn'tcha :'( :'(  You've got no sympathy for all of our suffering Handiholics.  You know we're just gonna have to run out and get one on order.

Patty thinks I'm buying selling and tradeing, but somehow no Handis ever get to leave home.

Nifty!  Thanks!  Hopefully they will "actually" show up, and not be endlessly delayed in order to produce more .243s or something........

Two rules:

1.) Keep your mouth shut!
2.) Never clean out the gun safe on a day the little woman is home!

Don't ask how I know.   ???

The main reason for it going back into production because it is primitive weapon legal for MS and La.  Who knows what other states by now.  I hear all the yahoo's on the lease wanting one now.  I don't have any desire to get one.  I'll Stick with my 45/70.

I may be wrong, but I think my 38-55 loaded to .375W ballistics (or even less) would do as well? After all, if the bullet will exit the critter all the damage internally has been done.

The 30-06 is the only Big Game rifle H&R makes.  It is the minimum for Dangerous game.  The .35 Whelen is the only chambering they have ever made that is totally adequate for Alaska, and parts of Canada.  Many of us will be awaiting this production run.  Too bad they won't have ejectors.  Very glad the one I already have has ejectors.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

The Handi .35 Whelen won't be legal as a primitive weapon in Louisiana - it's got to be at least .38 cal.  I shoot a .38-55, which is legal.
