First Trigger Job a Success !
« on: April 07, 2010, 01:51:39 PM »
After reading all the valuable info on this board I tore into my Handi to replace the hammer spring. I just got it back from the factory after sending it in because it wouldn't fire. After getting it back I found it would only shoot with the hammer extension removed. Anyhow I ordered a Wolff spring and took the job on. Working on these Handi's is a job that appears it might be difficult when you start but when it's over you know it was all in your head. When I had it tore down I decided to do a little honing here and there to improve the trigger. On closer observation it appears that they had done some honing when I sent it in. Between what they had done and some of my own the trigger is now a crisp 3 1/2#. With the Wolff spring it now fires everytime with the hammer extension attached. Thanks guys for the help and all the archived pages to follow.....My grandson now wants me to paint the stock John Deere Green with a couple of John Deere decals on it  :D
Thanks again, Zen

Zen,

Good deal, another success story.  If I see a couple of more these successful upgrades I will be brave enough to replace the spring on my one SB2 that has the occasional FTF.

Biker Beans

You gotta tear that thing apart,

Its so easy once you get into. Having greatly improved one of mine last week the only thing i regret is waiting so long to do it. The biggest tip i can give you is to only remove the two trigger gaurd pins first, then remove the trigger gaurd assembly before you remove the pin that holds the hammer in place. That way you can see exactly how the hammer spring is installed rather then having to figure out where all the pieces go,  if you knock out all three pins and let the parts fly ;D like i did.
