.416 Ruger
« on: July 29, 2010, 03:11:27 AM »
Any results from Africa with the .416 Ruger yet?  With all the hype from this new cartridge surely somebody here has taken it to Africa and used it already.  I want to see if it performs as well as Hornady/Ruger claims.  Thinking about building one.  Thanks for any helpful info.

If I remember correctly, there was use of one on "Tracks Across Africa" that worked just fine on the show.  I see no reason it wouldn't dispatch animals as Hornady/Ruger claims but I have no desire for one.  Brass is going to be less available and more expensive than older .416 offerings with, in my opinion, no significant increase in utility.  Also, if you take one to Africa and become separated from your ammunition, lots of luck in getting 416 Ruger ammo there.

Until Hornady and Ruger can sort out their African distribution this round and their .375 offering will remain American rounds, bought occasionally on safari but basically unknown here
