Dear DHTP,
Had one in for blueing awhile back and it "seemed" like all the rest[$%^&^&]The feeler gauge should be between .003-.010 when put between the forward end of the breech bolt slide and the head of the breech bolt lock. Remember. The action can be damaged if no clearance exists and if over the .010  it is NOT full locked!! To adjust[hammer in fired position] reach through the cocking gear pin hole with a small punch and change the relationship of the cocking gear by rotating to a different position. Easier if you work the lever open and closed a bit too. GOOD LUCK my friend. It is trial and error as I am sure you are aware of. This is the reason I charge a bit extra for the blueing of these lovely rifles[?]

thanks for the reply.  I called browning and was told that they dont even relly like to take the blr s a part.  they said the best is to mark the gears before takeing a part.  I gave up and had the guy ship it back to Browning.  Deer season started saturday so more important things to do than fix someone elses screw up.

This is a response I received from Jack Belk on the subject of re-setting the BLR's bolt a couple of years ago.  I've never had the opportunity to try it.

"The BLR has a spur gear inside a rack gear. Once you drop the lever/trigger group out of the receiver you'll see how they interact to time the bolt closing with total lock-up.

I don't know if there are marks or tricks to it.....I've always potisioned and tried until it came out right.

You'll need a slave pin to put it back together. It's a sub-assembly that can't be put together without one.

If you get stuck email and I'll step you through it. The BLR is a "jiggle gun". To put it together it has to be jiggled to line it all up. "
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
