Ruger # 1 is still pretty accurate
« on: April 18, 2010, 02:09:59 PM »
I haven't shot this rifle in several years but I have a couple of grandsons that want to hunt coyotes. Of course neither has a rifle for this so I needed three rifles. I put a larger scope on the #1 and loaded up some different bullets over Varget to see what results would be since I had never used Varget with this rifle. I got a 100 yd. group of .340" with a 45 gr. Sierra HP and 35 gr. of Varget. Not a hot load at all but I think it will do in a coyote. I also shot a group with a 50 gr. Hornady SPSX and 34.5 gr. Of Varget that went into .601. I think I will load up a few more of each load and make sure this wasn't some kind of fluke. I didn't think I could shoot that well anymore.  :o I also got some really good groups with a .22 rimfire today but I better quit patting my self on the back or my shoulder will be sore tomorrow.  ;D
