does lengthening the forcing cone or having it rubbed down help a shotgun with the pattern?

I had a 28 inch barrel 12 gauge barrel cut down to 24 inches, the forcing cone extended  and a custom choke installed on my 870 Rem about 15 years ago.   I took a box of shells and the gun to the gunsmith and he made all of the modifications so that the load I was shooting was maximized.  It was the best money I ever spent.   It extended my effective shooting distance by about 20 yards.

What buckeye said +1

I hate to admit some of the shots I have made with an 1100 Remington that I had the cone lengthened. NOW my wife has taken that gun from me!!

It is a 3" gun that will out shoot and out pattern any 3.5" gun I have seen.

I had an 870 barrel forcing cone lengthened, and it made a big difference.
