Pardon my ignorance, but that's why I'm asking: Did Browning stop making the 1892?...I realize they were made by Miroku in Japan. Also, does anyone have any experience with Cimarron? I also realize Cimarrons are upgraded from Rossi's or now probably LSI's from Italy as are Navy Arm's. I could also look into getting a slicked up LSI from Steves Gunz. I'm asking because I MAY aquire some money in the near future and I'd prefer to get an 1892 that is already mostly upgraded and slicked up and just all around better. I know many people have had success with off the shelf LSI's, but I don't care to go that route this time. I'm a handy guy with much technical background and some gunsmithing experience and I'm currently upgrading my H&R BC somewhat. My time is very limited and I'd pefer to just buy a better gun this time around....if I aquire the funds. At any rate, I would appreciate some info, whatever I end up doing. I would really love a Browning, I heard they are just about the best 1892's out there. I happen to own a Browning Citori Lightening made in Japan and it's an excellent gun.

It's easy enough to acquire a NIB Browning B92, as long as you'll be satisfied with either a .357 or a .44 mag, the only chamberings - or, you can buy a new "Winchester" M1892 by Miroku in .45 Colt or .44-40.

The latest Rossi's are still "Rossi", made in Brazil - some of which used to be branded "Puma" for LSI (who owns the name).

The Italian gunmaker, Chiappa (formerly Armi Sport) now also makes higher grade (and more expensive) M92's for several US importers  (Taylor/Cimmaron/Navy/etc), besides US importer LSI  - who still gets their M92's (now from Chiappa) branded "Puma".

Miroku has now, as it always had, the best fit/finish, Chiappa the most "bling", with Rossi's the working man's standard.

Depending upon what you want to do regarding issue vs aftermarket sights, some maker's 1892's may/may not need to be D/T'd, etc, for a particular receiver or tang peep sight.

The Browning's were only made a few years, I could dig out old catalogs if I had to.....
Browning's website has good  s/n info on it as well

Thanks everyone for the replies and the info. I would be looking for a 45LC since my Ruger Blackhawk (with larger steel Super Blackhawk grip frame) is also 45LC. As I stated, I'm not ready to purchase yet...just gathering some info for now. If I do aquire the funds, I will have to make a decision, although I am leaning towards the Winchester(Miroku) M1892 but the Cimarron and Navy Arms 92's are inviting also. If anyone out there owns a Cimarron or Navy arms 1892 I would certainly welcome any comments. I would like to own one of the best and I'm curious how the Winchester (Miroku) would compare to the Cimarron and Navy Arms (Chiappas). I may want one of the best but it's still a lot of money and if they're about the same price I of course want the best one for the money.

The M92 I am referring to was made from '78 until '87 and only in 357 mag and 44 mag.
Did Browning start making them again..... back to Browning's website I go..... Darn, this is gonna cost me money if they do make them in 45C

i have a early rossi imported by navy arms in 44-40 and installed a original tang sight and it is the cats meow for me. eastbank.

The current Miroku M1892 in .45 Colt has easily twice the quality of the Italian M1892's and 3x the quality of  South American  made M1892's, in both fit and quality of materials - for not a whole lot of different $$$ for an Italian-made, but a LOT more than a South American-made.


Only the corporate gurus at Miroku know how much longer they will continue to make their M1892 available in .45 Colt.
