Nepalese Martinis?
« on: May 02, 2010, 03:05:14 AM »
I'm looking at the Martinis in the Atlanta Cutlery catalog.  There are British guns and Nepalese made copies.  Now, I know that the Khyber pass copies are nothing you'd want to put next to your cheek and pull the trigger, but what about Nepalese?  They actually had Brit licensing and I believe Brit consultants brought in to 'help' them set up the production.  (I put help in quotes because British colonialism may be seen as, well, kind of overbearing to be really called help.  But that's another matter.)

Has anybody played with the Nepalese Martinis?  I wouldn't be getting one with plans on anything too extream.  I'd pick up some apropriately loaded ammo or maybe spring for a 45-70 or even a 45lc barrel.  Something mild yet available.  The gun would spend most of the time doing nothing, but I'd like to be able to know I could shoot it or rebarrel it should the spirit move me.

Considering the unknown quality of them and the amount of work that you'll have to put in, I think you'd be better served with one of these:

Now JLW before you run down all the Kyber Pass copies heres one I picked up in Pakistan about 50 yrs. ago and 30 or 40 yrs. ago built into a .225 Win.  have shot it all those yrs. and it still shoots 1/2" groups, never had a minutes trouble with it. Don't know about the Nepalese but they're factory made, aren't they?

Excellent point and thanks for the picture.

I ordered one.  I figure once I clean it up and check it over I will decide if i want to shoot it as is, rebarrel it, or just hang it on the wall.
