Ggrank,

don't bring up what we take hunting.  I used to go deer hunting for 3 or 4 days and all my stuff would fit in the front seat of my pickup.  Now I take a 28' 5th wheel and it has so much gear in it the Dodge Diesel Dually only gets 6 MPG towing it.

I use a folding handtruck to load up in the parking lot and tow my stuff to the bench, rifles in soft cases so I can carry up to three in one hand and pull the handtruck behind me with the other, I can load hard cased rifles on the hand truck it I take more rifles to shoot. http://www.handtrucksrus.com/crashdetail.aspx?id=461

1. large tool box with all the small stuff in it

2. Redifeld spotting scope case

3. Shooting bag with chrony, hearing protection, more ammo

4. Tripod for chrony

To fill my sand bags I uese either rice.  Good and dense.  For light sand bags - I use the old cloth shot bags.- Dried chick peas or beans.  About the size of pea gravel and are lighter than rocks or sand.

 My bags have not sprouted yet  :D... the seed is in freezer bags then stuffed into legs.  Have had them in use over four years now.  One bag has been breached by shooting. 454 handgun off it but still no sprouts... :)

I use a GI duffel bag when I take my son hunting.   That requires some serious baggage.   Can't imagine when the youngest starts tagging along.... ::)

I bought one of the swade toped range sand bags from Cabelas and looked around for what I wanted to fill the bag.
I wanted something that was heavy but not real heavy like rocks or sand and thought of rice.  It was heavy and cheap.
So at the grocery store I got looks as I was buying a 20 pound bag of rice and Canned dog food- rice for the bag and dog food for the mutt, she was out.  Told people it was survival food.
So far that was over 8 years ago and no mold no sprouts.  But the first 6 years I lived in the desert.  we will see what happens now that I live 5 blocks from the ocean.

I only need to take my guns & ammo.  The range that I am lucky enough to shoot has everything including a chronograph & a golf cart to drive to the targets.  The fartherest being 400 yards.

when I have to park some distance from where I shoot this comes in handy. but the ranges I use regularly I can park right behind the bench.





this one holds 4 long guns in the vertical rack off the back and the whole wagon for small stuff. I went to home depot and lowes today but didnt find just what I needed. Ill find it tho. DR

I will take anywhere from 4 to 6 guns at a time, not including extra handi barrels, as I only get to shoot (here lately) every 3 months. I will pack the following.
200 rounds per pistol caliber                                      leatherman tool                                                         
100 rounds per rifle caliber                                        hammer
Targets                                                                 blanket roll for gun rest
Staple gun and extra staples                                     WalMart sacks for brass clean up
screwdriver set                                                       spare change for drinks and snacks
cleaning kit and bore cleaner,patches                         shooter's bag and 50 cal ammo cans to haul this crapola around
shooting muffs and foam ear plugs                             100% Deet spray
lens cleaning cloth                                                   ball cap and sunglasses
bore sight kit                                                          towel for hands and face
Sharpie markers in fine pt and chisel point                    sunscreen
spare magazines                                                      duct tape
fast food napkins (for the latrine)                               whatever else strikes my fancy (gun vise for cleaning or bore sighting, more ammo, more guns, etc)


It is always going to be too much or not enough gear. A coin flip could almost determine how that will happen!

I have a big plastic box that carries my targets, spots to cover bullet holes, stapler, extra stap;es, screw driver set, hammer and punch set, ear muffs, Brass Catcher (Mini-14 and 30), range finder, cleaning kit.

Spotting scope has it's own case, and gun rest. 

Bag for ammo

Guns in their soft side cases.

The best thing to bring to a public range is a friend. My buddy went to a public range with 3 rifles and all his gear. When he arrived no one was there and he thought he would have a pleasurable morning. After setting up and shooting one rifle he went downrange to to put anouther target up.After he tacked the target up he turned to see three youths running to the road with all his gear.

Occasionally (last one I remember was in FL a few years ago), bad guys will just go to private ranges and if there is only one guy shooting, kill him and take his guns. Your friend was lucky.

the other day I was shooting alone and was suprised when from not more than ten ft away this guys says" mind if I go down and set up?" I never heard him pull up or even noticed him at all. Must have been the ear plugs :o   DR

That's for sure, there's nothing like ruining a range trip because you need some simple thing you forgot to bring and no one else can help, like a small screwdriver to adjust sights for instance, not that that's ever happened to me!!  ::)  :-\

"like a small screwdriver', Yeah! Just yesterday we needed (unbelievable) one of those really small mini, or glasses repair sized screwdrivers! Fortunately we were at a friends range and they were at the house.
Another thing to go in the box, but if you dont have it you are done.
