Groundhogs
« on: April 14, 2010, 12:57:43 PM »
I was driving home from work and right there nest to the road 15ft was a mound with a groundhog.  This would be nothing to see in the country but this was in a housing edition 30ft from a back door.   I still havn't seen any in the fields,Did they all move to town??   How many of you use a .223 for Groundhogs??   At this rate a Slingshot would work.  Thanks Jeff    :o ;)

I have spotted one in the industrial park across the street from my house. I took a pot shot at him tonight with the .22lr and a 60gr SSS, quiet and powerful.  Next time I will have to remember to put my window down first!  ;D :D :o ::)  Just kidding, I missed, but he'll be back.

Thanks, Dinny

The 223 would be a very good gun for Woodchucks. Mine are all on the heavy side and get to weighting 200 pounds after and hour or so :o. I have been using an old Contender with a 23" 221 Fireball barrel, much easier to carry. I have not seen much activity yet, it will not be long. ;)

Groudhogs are tough, a kill shot in some cases will still let them get back into their hole.
223 will work just fine, I like Hornady SX bullets at 223 velocities
