Muskrat glands?
« on: April 18, 2010, 03:44:31 AM »
I have some spring muskrat glands that I would like to do something with, but don't know what or how? If I do something with them, what animal would they be attractive to. I like to have my feet in the water so I hope I could make something attractive to muskrat, mink, or raccoon.
Thanks, Shawn

Shawn, keep them in the freezer for now. I have never done anything with rat glands,so cannot offer much help. I do know they are attractive to most animals.

Muskrat glands/musk is a universal attractant, I have never seen any animal species that wasn't highly attracted to them. For usage in mink and muskrat lures I would preserve them fresh in the lure. For fox, coyote and bobcat lures I would taint them as canines and cats go crazy like they are mesmerized attempting to rub and roll on tainted glands. For coon it can be either way, never could note any difference with coon. If there was only one ingredient I could add to any species lure, other than perhaps beaver, it would be muskrat galnds/musk.

Arnold said he was putting on a rat trapping demo at the NTA in Marshfield this Summer and demonstrating how he uses Muskrat Super All Call to rack up such large harvests. I know he got called for a tour to Iraq a while back with the National Guard.

I have some glands from muskrats caught while beaver trapping in the freezer. I like to use them for rats or mink. What do you do with them to make a lure? Asa I use your muskrat super all call when I trap houses. I've tried others, but yours is my favorite. It doesn't spill and the smell lasts until I'm ready to pull.
