"Its too much money for what you get! "

I don't give two hoots whether or not you like the NULA.  It might be the lightest standard bolt action rifle made.  It certainly deserves mention, unless you plan to Bogart the rest of the thread.

Forbes old company (ULA) now NULA was the first to make what's called light rifle @ 5lbs and Kimber an others came after him feeding on what he done trying to get a market share of that business as it has grown.  No single company can keep up with that demand.

Sure the NULA cost alot more and there no for everyone they are a custom builder here a list of options
Your choice of stock color.
Your choice of stock length-of-pull.  (If you are not sure of this measurement, just include your sleeve length, height, weight, and shirt size on your order form.)
Matte or bright stock finish.
Sporter or varmint-style stock configurations.
Your choice of barrel length.
Your choice of barrel contour.
Your choice of stainless steel or chrome-molybdenum (CM) barrels.
Matte or bright metal finish.
All production and wildcat calibers  available.
Special throat dimensions.
Choice of Timney or Jewell triggers.
Right or left hand action.
Single shot or repeater on all models.
1 inch or 30mm scope mounts.
Lo or high scope mounts.

Most that own ULA or NULA owners keep their rifles and you very seldom see one on the used market and when you do they pretty much keep their value.

My wife shoot a ULA model 24 in 280AI and my Win model 70 270WSM is a John Gallaher light rifle that was sold thru gulf breeze here a picture of his action work  http://www.gbfirearms.com/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=4.  John's rifles are priced about like the NULA.

Nothing wrong with a Kimber but they are what I call Production rifle and that keeps the cost down and I'm sure they shoot good.  One thing I've learned you buy what you can afford.

Richard, you should probably send that rifle to me.

There ya go Lewis...  :-\  Makin me feel guilty again...  :-[

Tell ya what, I don't know as I've ever killed a deer with those Noslers.  Heck, I don't even remember how fast they are going!   ::)  I'll take the old girl out in the next year or two and shoot me one!  Just for you pal!   ;D

I've got another (old model) M7, this one in 260, I picked up used, and cheap, some time back.  Gonna make a 250/3000 on it.  I gotta kill a deer with it first so I'll stick a factory 2d Classic stock on it for $100 and It'll look real purdy for the job!  I'll think of you when I do that to!   :D

People gonna start wondering when I keep hollerin "THIS ONE'S FOR YOU LEWIS!"   :-[

44 man, I dont have as much experience as many of the other folks writing here, But I do agree that a 7mm-08 loaded closer to 300 fps in a GOOD RIFLE (subjective to your definition of good) would be real cool. Now, having said that my go to rifle is a 7mm WSM in a model 70. I have a zeiss 3-9X40 conquest on it and I hand load for it. It is short for a magnum rifle, it loves the nosler accubonds I reload for it and it kicks noticably less than my 7mm rem mag. Good hunting rifle accuracy (I cant shoot it better than 1 MOA, others can).
Others that are a consideration that I have seen perform well are the :
338 fed
308 win
270 WSM
260 rem
325 WSM ( real popular in my area)

Thanks for your ideas, it has pretty well confirmed what I was thinking in the first place.  A kimber 1st choice, Rem 7 2nd choice.  They are pricey, I was hoping I could come close with a Ruger or Savage or Mossburg or whatever.  I'll have to wait much longer to save up the price of a (hopefully used) Kimber or Rem 7.  I would like it in a 7-08 or .308 for an all around rifle.  Thanks again.  44 Man

Savage makes a couple 6.5 lb rifles in short action, the 11FNS in blue and composite or wood, and the 16FSS in stainless with composite stock.  Both come in 223, 243, 7mm-08 and 308.  Both have accutrigger, 11FNS msrp is about 590, 16FSS is about 690 msrp.  I'm seeing 11's for about 525 on gunbroker.

The Ruger MkII ultra lights are another option, run about $600 and 6.25 lbs.
