I've cast some Lee 430-240tl, and have HS-6 on hand. Lee & Hogdon had nothing listed for HS-6 in .44. Speer listed 8.5 to 9.5gr with their 240 lswc. Also found a lyman reference for 9.8 to 10.8 with their 240 swc. And a couple folks suggested 10gr makes a nice mild accurate load. Anyone else using HS-6 with .44?

Not in a 44 but I do load it in a 45 colt.
Hodgon #26 manual
I use 12.5gr behind a 255gr swc with good results in many different guns.
This is about 2gr below starting load for Silhouette loads.
Velocity runs about 1045 out of my custom Bisley with a 5.5" barrel.
This is a Ruger or equal load so don't use it in a colt or clone there of.

They don't list it for a 44 in the Silhouette loads.

Under regular handgun loads for a 44 mag it lists 10gr starting and 12gr max with a 240gr jacketed bullet for a velocity of 1134 to 1211 out of a 7" barrel.
It lists the same load for a 250gr lead gas check.

HS 6 is a good powder.
I have had very good results with it.

Longtom, thanks! I'll be shooting these in a Ruger Bisley or a S&W 629 6.5".

ive used a lot of it in 44s. Its a good clean powder for midrange loads. 12 grains is about max for a 240. Its a powder that sometimes does better with a mag primer so its worth while to try it with both. If you do use a mag primer drop back to 11 grains and look for pressure signs before you go to 12. Hs6 is probably my favorite powder for pushing cast bullets to 1000-1100 fps in any big bore sixgun.

Take that same bullet and load it with 7.5 grains Unique in .44 Special cases.  It is a good shooting load.
