I've used the 170gr Sierra HP bullet in a 10" contender to take a yearling and this year used the same load (with 800X) from my M97 to take a doe.
She walked up to my stand and from a later-measured 15 steps the first shot went low through the ribcage and through the diaphragm. She trotted off to about double that distance and a little behind my stand and the second shot went more directly through the lower ribcage, damaging a portion of lung. I should have held higher up the chest, but the effect was sure enough and I tracked her about 80 yards to where she lay down to finish the job.
The bullets created rather large entrance holes, the upper shot had a few fragments of lead under the skin although both bullets penetrated. I did not find either round, and neither exited. I'll check the gutpile for a last look, in case a remnant got left behind.
