Found myself mentally "talking" to the Tractor today.
« on: April 16, 2010, 11:47:09 AM »
Perhaps it was the heat, a bit of dehydration, low blood sugar, or maybe it was the fun I was having, but as she motored back and forth with 20 blade disc prep'ing fields for planting seed, we got to a clayey, dry, hard part and I found myself mentally encouraging her to "Eat it up big girl!  Eat it up!" every time we wound around and around that spot.  I made a mental note to self at that time to mention it on the Forum.  Did I mention how hot it was?

Is that "strange and unusual"?  Anybody else care to admit a touch of surealism from time to time?  Mental madness then?  She didn't respond back if that is any consolation...and she did just what I asked!

Anyway, the fields are prep'd and ready to plant seed tomorrow.  A crew of help is coming.  Lime first, then seed, then cover, and wait for rain.

Now you just need to trade the ball cap for one that says John Deere.

No can do!  My red tractor (MF 275) is an EATING MACHINE.  She will out work me every day and twice on Sunday.

It is a Ford/Chevy/Dodge thing.  As long as you have one, you're good to go.  So many LESSONS LEARNED and it does not matter what color they are.  Each one has its own "personality" and my red one is under my skin in a BIG way.

I suppose I would be this passonate if I had started out green, but I didn't.  I started with a yellow tractor (Case) that someone had painted red...not to mention that when it needed to be replaced, all I saw was red - financially.

I loved that old circa '53 Case.  My son has her today with its rebuilt six cylinder gasoline engine that some Municipal Mechanic stuffed in there to replace the removed 4-cyl. diesel motor used as a emergency hurricane pump.  That old girl will still go 70 MPH - one time.  With over 4-inches of steering play, balloon tires, no shocks or springs, you just wouldn't survive at that speed.  But she would get there though - one time.  I got her to 35 MPH once and knew I was in serious trouble, but I am here to remember it.
