Model 30 question

My marlin glenfield model 30 has no numbers after the model number, but the serial starts with AB. Does this mean my rifle is a model A, AB or is just a model 30? Thanks, Worm.

I believe it's just a model 30. The AB with the serial numbers are year identifiers.

It's just a Model 30 and it's the best Glenfield of them all.  They are very accurate, much more so than the 30A.

Boy, they must be target rifles.  My 30AW consistently shoots less than one inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards.

I was told the rifle was made in 66 when I called marlin about the front sight. I'm still figuring the kentucky windage on the rifle and so far it shoots pretty good if I bury about half the front sight into the rear notch. Picked up a mount for cheap the other day and may still install a scope on it. Thanks for the information on the rifle.

Any gun with a nose cap will typically outshoot one with a rear barrel band.  The 30s typically have a very light crisp trigger pull as well.  My 30A had an 8lb trigger so I sold it.

They are not that hard to do a trigger tune up on.  Mine had a stiff creepy trigger from the factory but a little time on the bench fixed that.  Now it is about 2.5 pounds and breaks like glass.  As much work as you do on guns I would hav thought you could do trigger jobs.

I shot my 30A today, only had 150gr Blue Box Federals with me.  At 70 yd 3 shots were about 1 1/4 in vertical, almost in a straight line.  My old eyes don''t do so good with irons any more, I'm gonna stick a 2.5 Weaver on her and try it again at 100.  Trigger is heavy, guessin 5-6 lb's but clean.  I swear this thing was a closet queen, my 20 rounds left more wear inside the receiver than what it had before I shot it.  Swampman, my 30A doesn't have the rear barrel band, has an end cap, was made in 1982.  DP

Since I installed the full length magazine tube my model 30 has a nose cap and a barrel band. Anyone know of someone who makes a scout mount for this rifle?

Weaver makes the best and cheapest scope mount for the Marlin 336 which is what the Glenfield 30 is.

AB does indeed mean it was made in 1966.  My brother just bought a Glenfield 30 made in 1966 in 35 Remington.

Shot my 30 A again this weekend, and she is gonna have to stay a 30-30.  She laid 4 rounds of the Fed. 150's into a 9" rock at 178 yd, (lazered) then did the same with 3 Hornady LE's.  This was with open sights since I forgot to put the base with the scope and rings when I headed to the cabin. :-[  She really suprises me how good she shoots for me as I have problems with open sights.  Darn, guess I'll just have to buy another one to have rebored to 38-55 ;D.  DP

Good answer! Though my 2nd ex was the 'best boy on the block' ie tomboy deluxe - she always wanted to be in a man's world and be the best at whatever. Got herself a degree in Industrial Maintenance and a degree in Welding and got herself hurt - I often told her to be careful what she asked for. You can get real hurt in a man's world.. She didn't mind where she was and got run over by a grader - at least that's her story. Permanently disabled with back issues - I'm sure the pain is real and I wouldn't wish her discomfort on anyone. I had a single shot shotgun like that - you want to talk about discomfort!! Still think it's a she... ;D ;D

My 3rd Wife (13years last Fall) is a real woman and knows what it means to be a lady - Sorry, I don't have a rifle that matches up to her, but then again, neither do my daughters, BUT they are getting there. None of them are true Tomboys, for which I am grateful. In all fairness, I have known a few Tomboys in my life, who knew how to be what they were without being offensive, some could even be real ladies on occasion....there was this ranchgirl back in Wyoming....better not go there :-X
