i know this has been covered before but ??????
« on: April 27, 2010, 05:32:00 PM »
i was searching through the forum for info and want to make sure i am correct.  i had a 22 hornet barrel fitted to my sb2 frame,  just for curiosity i found out that it also fits perfectly on a sb1 frame that i dont use.  as i understand the articles i could find searching through the forum this should be safe to shoot.  but i want to make sure that i am correct.  Even though the hornet has a higher pressure rating than a 12 ga., the pressure exerted on the frame is lower due to the small size of the case head. Now i know that any other centerfire rifle cartridge would be out of the question for the sb1 frame and that ilion will only fit shotgun barrels and pistol cartridges on the sb1, but it would be nice to put this frame back into use

I think it is safe because they put 22 hornett and 30-30 barrels on H&R before the SB2 frames came out. My son had shotgun made in the 70 and got those two barrels never had any trouble with them.  Datil

If you do not have any issues with the larger fireing pin things will be just fine, the Hornet is just an over grown 22 Mag.  A 357 Max is good on a SB1, so have at it.  Larry

I just bought one of the newer H&R (Ilion, NY stamped) SB1 receivers from another forum member.  Appears to have the smaller, rifle-type SB2 firing pin diameter.  Definitely smaller than my older NEF 12ga.
