Paco, over on levergunscommunity.com started one but illness has sidelined him for a while. Kodiak used to make one off the shelf for around $950 the last time I checked.

EAA no longer has anything at all in long guns.

You are going to need to makes ure the side by side is strong enough to handle rifle loads.
Change the firing pins from the large shotgun type to smaller rifle.
You will need to weld the frame closed and redrill the new firing pin holes.
as far as welding up Barrels  you will need to figure out a jig and get shoot the guns over and over again while making slight modifications in getting the barrels regulated to the same point of aim at what yardage you thing.  50, 75, 100 yards.  so the right and left hit with in an inch of each other at the regulated range with your chosen load.
This is what makes the british side by sides so much.
I did see a Ruger Red label that has been modified to shoot 375 H&H.  They did it the easy way and made each tube strait.  So the under tube was a couple inches away from the top tube.  If you are in the Murietta Area of Southern CA it is in the Shootist gun shop. (HAS been for the past 15 years so pretty sure it is still there.)  but you can look at it for ideas.
I was thinking of making a side by side 12 ga rifle and realized the costs in trying to regulate 2 barrels.  And have now changed my mind to one rifle the other smooth bore for buck shot.

I made up a second set of barrels for my savage 24. It came to me as a .22 WMR over 20 gauge and I made a  second set of barrels in .22 LR over 30/30. I had to bush the firing pin but that was the only action work. Now getting the two rifles to shoot to the same POI with one scope, that has been an ongoing project for years. ::)  My goal was to have the .22 zero at 75 yards with the 30/30 going 3" high at 100 yards. One difficulty is self-inflicted, I keep changing my mind as to what load I want to shoot out of the 30/30 and if you change loads it means starting all over with the barrel regulation. It's a lot easier if one barrel is a shotgun since you don't have to hit a wabbit in the eye with a shotgun. ;D
You could just leave the double as a shotgun, install rifle sights and shoot slugs. You'll likely still have a problem with regulation but by trying out a variety of slugs in each barrel you may find a combination which shoots close enough to be effective, and you'd still have the option of birdshot and buckshot when you like. Even if the slugs prove accurate out of only one barrel it still makes an effective combination without the weight of most true rifle/shotgun combos. When hunting wabbits during deer season I load my 20 gauge O&U with a slug in the bottom barrel and an ounce of sixes in the top, that's a very versatile combo.

3 Grand will get you a new Sabatti 45-70 DR at Cabelas. Pedersoli's are about 3500 if you need a hammer gun. Look for a Remmy/Biakal if you want cheap and ugly but shoots very nicely.

I've got a buddy who found a smith who converted a Red Label to a double 45-70. It is really nice. I've shot it many times and he's killed some hogs with it. If anyone wants any details on the gun or the guy who did the work I'll be glad to get it for you.
