Hornady Bullet Test

I recently got to take part in a balistic gel shoot with some Hornady reps. It was a first for me, a real blast!
I can say that if you shoot a .308 or .30-06 for hunting that you really need to look at the new 165 grain GMX bullet. We shot it out of a .308 Remington 700P using the TAP load (it was for LEO's during a SWAT school I help teach), and only managed to recover one bullet...all the others were complete pass throughs on approximately 36 inches of gel. The one we recovered was a perfect mushroom. The wound channel was almost identical to the other rounds we fired with increased penetration. It took over 48 inches of gel to catch it.
I can also say that if you shoot a .223 and it likes light bullets to look at the 40 grain TAP load...absolutely devastating! And, I can say that it will punch two 1/4 inch layers of aluminum, the first at a 45 degree angle (student firing the AR forgot about sight offset at close range and hit the table instead of the gel)!

They can't be payin' you enough to teach people to shot black guns!   Man, I am on edge just trying to work with one new shooter at a time.  I would stick to shooting the gel, aluminum is kinda pricey these days.

Humm, lets see, at .004-.005 for two walls of an alum. can, that equates to how many cans lined up over how long a distance?

I like Hornady bullets.  My .243 Savage likes them too.  I scored some blem bullets a couple of years ago.  The seller wouldn't tell me who made them, but they look just exactly like the Hornady 100 grain Interlock (#2453).  My bone-stock Savage bolt shoots them into 0.5 MOA with a goodly charge of Reloder 22.  I've got about 300 of them left and I hope I find some more blems before I run out.

My son's Remington 7600 (.30-06) really likes the Hornady 150 grain SST (#30302)  with a near-max charge of IMR 4895 that pump rifle will keep the 100 yard group under an inch.  Who'd have ever thought that a pump Remington would turn in MOA accuracy. 

I've never tried the TAP ammo, haven't seen a use for it yet.

The TAP round is loaded with their 40 grain varmint bullet...they just found a niche for it in a L.E. loading.
As for the students, they are better than average when we get them. We run with a 2/1 student/instructor ratio, and they are well versed in the golden rule..."You shoot me and my friends will kill you!"
Poor guy that pulled the first shot about fainted when he heard what the table cost...well over a grand!

 I got the carbine version of that rifle and it shoots right along with a Savage of the same cal. with more then one particular load.
