anyone try hornady leverevolution in 30-30 Handi?
« on: April 16, 2010, 12:12:17 PM »
Have a newly aquired 30-30 on the way, have several boxes of Hornady ammo for my Win 94, wondered if anyone had tried this ammo in their handi?

Topper 12, Topper 16, Topper 410, Handi SB2 30-30, TrackerI 20ga, guess I'm hooked too, (.223 next or .58ML?)

I still have to JB weld my front sight back on mine and then I have a box to try out.

I used them in my 30-30 handi until I started reloading.

I was satisfied with their accuracy and killed my first deer with one it.

Hey Daman, If that sight is a ramp you can wrap it down with black plastic electricians tape to try it out. I used one a whole season that way before getting the 'shop time' to really fix it.

I tried some in my Marlin 30TK.  It was accurate and made quite an exit hole on one of our small So. Jawja WT's.  I don't see why it wouldn't work just as well in a Handi with 4 inch's more barrel...  :-\  Probably better...  ;D

We have killed 6 or 8 deer with Savage 340's in 30-30 with the Hornady round you asked about.  all one shot kills between 50-150 yards.  I am impressed with the accuracy and the downrange performance.  I use Remington core lokts for practice now and save the LeverEvolutions for deer season.  I'm sure they'll work great in your Handi.

They work good in my .30-30 Handi.  Hornady LE ammo is my go to ammo for hunting.

I have a Marlin 336 and a Handi in .30-30, and I have LEs for them, but haven't tried them yet.  I have had superb results with them in my .45-70 and .44 mag Handis.

i shot the leverevolution in my 45/70 this past year for whitetail.  was not impressed with the terminal performance at all.  yes it killed magnificently. but the bullet comes unglued to easily as i found bullet fragments  from entrance to exit hole in two deer.  one was a clean broadside shot i found a large chunk of brass and lead lodged in the exit side skin and many jacket fragments throughout the chest cavity. and the other was a neck shot that did not touch the spine i found many pieces of the jacket throughout the wound channel, to include a piece of the jacket about 1/2" in on the entrance side.   i started finding these pieces as these deer were skinned out, so naturally i looked for more.  needless to say i wont hunt with these any more in the 45/70,   they sure are accurate bullets though
