336 T?
« on: April 22, 2010, 02:13:56 AM »
After all these years, I just got one - this makes my 5th Marlin "keeper". Thanks to NSERIES! A great guy to deal with. Not really sure if it's a T, barrel isn't marked T but it's exactly what I wanted - 20", straight stock, squared trigger guard, no saddle ring. I'll have to check the S/N for production date. Actually, I don't really care what it's called but it handles like a Winchester and is built like a Marlin. Had to tell somebody...

CONGRATS!

Ain't it grand!?  Nothing like the pride of ownership when you finally get something you really want!   ;D

I'd love to see a picture of it.   ;)

I've got to get a couple pics. Since I got it, we have been busy as the devil. The weather has been good and farm work has us hopping. Can't even find time to take her for a walk.

Handles like a Winchester? I do like the lighter weight and straight stock. I bought a Win 94 a few years ago, a pretty thing with the WinTuff wood, but I prefer the Marlins. As handy as the RC's are, something about the straight stock and slimmer forearm of the Win 94 and straight stocked Marlins appeal to me. I'm real fond of my older Rossi '92 Trapper as well. Years back I shortened the stock, added a Pachmyer Decelerator and slimmed up buttstock and forearm on an early 336 for my youngest son to hunt with. I believe he 10 at the time. I had a hard time keeping enough bullets cast to keep him in ammo. It comes as close to a "T" in handling as I've found. That's 15 yrs or so back and he still likes to take it out a couple days during the season and for plinking. I suspect my new grandson will use it in another 10 years or so. So, for me, the little "T" handles like a Winchester and is everything the Winchester ain't :) I like Ford trucks better too.

The 336 Texan was introduced in 1954 and discontinued in 1983. Mine was made in 1973, first year for the wide scan hooded front sight,( glad they slide off). They are my favorite 30-30 models next to the 24" octagon bbl models.  Enjoy!!

Handles like a Winchester?  Must be a defective Marlin.  All my Marlins handle way better than any Winchester.

Regards,
Yup -tough bunch here  :) Still like the way the Winchester carries but can't get past that rattletrap action. Guess that's why my Win has set in the safe while I was craving the Texan! All mine are 20" barrels except a '92 Rossi Trapper. I've thought about a .30-30 Trapper and just might cobble one up if the right donor comes along. I'll bet that would be handy with a straight stock!

Saddlebum, thanks - that's a handy link and I bookmarked it. Believe last time I needed it I found a link from leverguns or marlinowners.

Took the Texan over to my son's farm and showed it to him while we had a little break. Said "That's nice Dad, I'm keeping mine"  Ungrateful kids...
