First With A Handgun
« on: November 19, 2003, 02:41:00 PM »
Just wanted to share with everyone.  I rarely post, but am on this site daily.  I've been practicing with my 12" Encore .44 mag for about 3 years now and finally took it out this past weekend.  Wouldn't you know it...a nice healthy mature doe graced my presence and one shot at 67 steps landed her in my freezer.  I'm hooked!  -Randy

8) cool! congratulations! now, you'll be looking to increase handgun kill numbers. it's very addicting. how about some details on the load, the circumstances, etc. scope, or iron sights? :D

KYODE,
It is scoped with a TC scope and was shot with factory Winchester 240gr. ammo.  The combo did the job nicely as she did not take another step.  The doe presented herself at 4:30 pm and was very, very skittish.  She was definitely on to me, and we had a stare-off for about 15 minutes.  Finally, something from where she came from caught her attention (possibly another deer?) and when she looked away...I smiled.

Thanks,
Randy

Randy,

I have hunted with a handgun pretty mucs as long as I have been allowed to. They say you always remember your first ( deer ), if you are like me, you will remember every deer you ever take with a handgun. Whether it's because of useing a new gun, a different caliber, or a certain situation. Congrats, and may you have many more great memories hunting with handguns.

  teeball  :D

P.S.

Once you are hooked, you are hooked for life. I have not had my shotgun out to hunt deer for the 6 years.

Congrats Randy!  That's a good shot. I'm heading out tomorrow for the Illinois opener with my 300 Whisper.
