Just joined the Stevens 200 Club
« on: April 07, 2010, 07:54:36 PM »
Just bought a new Stevens 200 in .270 for $270 OTD, the cheap stock. but felt its worth it for a new bang around truck gun. Gonna put a Bushnell Trophy on it, that I got sitting on the shelf, and call it good.
Ya just can't beat a new rifle for under $300.  ;D The clincher for this week is that I also bought a new Alps Zenith 3 tent and a new Big Agnes sleeping bag,  from a good guy on a forum for $110 shipped. So big score, a rifle, tent and good goose down sleeping bag, all for less than $400 buckaroos. Wow....

Congratulations and welcome to the club.  ;)

You did good on the price.  The Trophy should do just fine.

You will find the 200 to be quite a rifle for the price. I have 3 of them, 2 short actions and 1 long action. The last one was a 30-06 w/scope for $280 + sales tax ($299 OTD), so your price is pretty good.

Bought a Stevens 200 in 7mm-08 around a month ago.  Lucky me, found it on clearance in an Academny Sportings Good store for $230 plus tax.  After trip to range and consulting with my shooting friends, determined factory trigger pull was 6-7 pounds at least.  Adjusted the set screw on the straight wire trigger spring and reduced pull, but then decided to work on straight wire spring itself to lighten pull more.  I reduced thickness of spring along its middle part.  Probably have trigger pull down to about 2 lbs now. Did not care for the plastic stock, so being a woodworker with some scrap maple and cherry wood, laminated three boards of wood to make a stock for it.  Turned out kinda decent, but the inletting was a real pain.

Nice job on the stock! Looks great!

Yesterday, went into the Academny store outside of Houston (Humble) where I bought my 7mm-08 Stevens 200 about a month ago.  Noticed they had reduced price down to $198 on their Stevens 200.  Clerk told me Academny had gotten about 500 of them (7mm-08 and 270 Win) for past Christmas sales and were clearing out remaining stock.  So, being a chain store throughout Southern states, assume remaining Stevens 200 rifles are priced now at $198.  By the way, noticed they had the Marlin XLS rifle also at reduced price of $248.

Well I just entended my enlistment in the club.  Academy here had 4 or 5 7mm-08s and 6 or 7 270s on the shelf for $199 each.  Been there for quite a while and well, I could not pass them by any longer.  Already had a long action so I brought home a 7mm-08. Don't need it,  but you know how that goes.  Now I have to get dies, brass, bullets, scope, mounts, trimmer etc but thats all part of it.  At least I already have some powders to try.
