Marlin only made the mr7 for a few years anyone know why they stoped making them, from my understanding they were well liked.

Only one reason they would stop, they were not making enough money on it.  Larry

Either low demand or can't sell them at a profitable price.  Probably entered an already flooded market place.

They were threatened with a lawsuit.

If you are speaking of these I would say they have not quit making them at all. In fact they even come out with a new one this year. Dale

Dale,

I believe he is talking about the original MR7 that Marlin sold in the late 90's. I think Ruger threatened them with a lawsuit for copy right infringement. Also, I was told second hand about 5 years ago that Marlin was working on a new BA rifle, and I got laughed at. I am glad they have been a success. I have a XS7 .308. I am itching to get home in August and set up for deer season.

Marlin has never really made a dud of a rifle. And with their new offerings, they will capture even more of the market. I bought a LNIB Camo XL7 from a guy who needed money, and I tried out some HSM 165gr BT sp rounds which I have a case of. Got 0.77in group at 100yds with a Buckmaster scope.

I saw a MR7 at one gunshop on the shelf for 5 yrs, finally sold.  I liked it, but they would not budge off the price.  Never seen a used one for sale.

Bought an XL7 .270 the other day for my son...ridiculously cheap, Burris Scope,  and it is a tack driver!  He loves it!  Hope they sell a lot of them.

Could have swore I read an article saying they had some accuracy issues with them too. Something to do with trying to use their micro-groove rifling and it not quite working as well as it did in the lever actions.

MR-7 rifles were great guns.  A friend has one in 30-06 and it prints anything you run through it under 2" at 100yds.  Not many loads go MOA, but if it'll run ALL loads under 2" then it's a keeper.

I never heard about any lawsuits, but the gun used "parts" of all the popular rifles,  Bolt handle was Ruger, bolt and lock-up and scope bases was Remington, floorplate and box mag was Browning, trigger, safety, and bottom of the action was Winchester.

They just weren't selling, is the biggest issue.  Kind of pricey, around $600 new, and you could get any of the "big" bolt action names for the same money or less.

It's a mystery to me too.  They seem like nice guns.  A coworker of mine has one in .30-06 as his main hunting rifle.  He found it still new in box about 3 years ago for $350 - shop was just trying to get rid of it at the time.

I'd like to get one added to the collection eventually.  I'd also like to get one of the Mossberg 810's (another underrated rifle IMHO) added eventually too.
