Thanks, He weasn't gobbling off the roost. He didn't gobble until I made my first call at about 5:45. Worked him for about 35-40 minutes he had about 200 yards of cut corn field to cross. Supprisingly I never heard or saw any hens. No deer either! It was a great morning, listening to all the song birds wake up, and then a sucsessful hunt!
PS it was my first 20ga bird

I joined the Navy in 1973 and I thought New York was just a big city, didn't know it had a state attached to it.  1975 the Navy sent me to an installation at edge of the Adrondacks, West Milton, NY, west of Saratoga Springs.  I got there and to my surprise there were no skyscrapers! ;D  Lived up there for over 3 years, beautiful part of the USA and great folks.  There were more country music stations back then in Upstate NY than where I came from in Kentucky.  You live in a great place, but you already know that.

I'm in heart of the finger lakes region about 8 miles south of the southern tip of Cayuga lake. My wifes parents had 680 acre farm before medical bills started causing them to sell of the land, but a near by farm who are friends of the family bought most of it so I am still able to hunt that land. We also have tons of state forest near by. Pretty healthy deer population also, between me and my son we put 8 deer in the freezer this season, we had 11 tags between us.
