Ok fellas'. Thanks for ALL the replies. In my area I have no way of even seeing one in person let alone talking to someone that has had one. The Ace Hardware guy that quoted me tells me "its break action, the most accurate a gun can get". While I know in "theory" that a break action should be the most accurate.. I also know this isnt always the case. Im still fairly conflicted but I will likely shy away from a Handi. What I gather from all of you is what I gathered from my hours of google searching. Some people claim they are tack drivers, others get 1inch groups at best. I really dont want to spend nearly $400 on a single shot with that kind of record. Thanks again! I'll probably go for a Savage 25 or 12. I'll just have to wait an extra month for the $600!

Poopers..

While many of the Handi's are extremely accurate..a break action rifle isn't the most accurate rifle you can get.I never said that, nor did I mean to imply it. They are great rifles and some can indeed shoot every bit as well as most off the shelf bolt guns, but there is more accurate rifles. The Handi's track record is what it is,most of the time which is very good, and no you don't have to spend $400 to get one, there are many places that sell them for less.Like I said earlier,if you are wanting a dedicated rifle and have no wants or desires to have a switch barrel rifle, then by all means look elsewhere.

Do some of your searching here as well as goggling for answers, and I think you will find what you are looking for. If you are wanting a sub moa rifle out of the box, then good luck with your quest, and I hope you find what you are looking for.

That's the first time I've ever heard of anyone saying that break actions are the most accurate.
Either one of the Savage's you mentioned would serve you well.

Same here..It's a first for me too :D

I have heard it from a few different people ( that doesnt validate it any more-so though ) that due to less moving parts..break-actions are more accurate. These days with CNC's and tight tolerances we have semi-autos that are bolt action accurate. Maybe back in the day break actions were more accurate before modern machining techniques were implemented? My first gun was my dads break action 20 gauge. Anyhoo, I love my bolt guns. My only semi-autos are my AR15 and concealed carry .380.

Thanks again everyone!

I have heard many times that a SINGLE SHOT rifle is more accurate, and one can imply a break-action but there are many makes of single shot actions.

Hype by a salesman.......he wanted to sound like he knew something. Im amazed by some of the things I overhear in the big chain gun departments.

Do you stand a good chance on getting a tack driver with any bolt rifle..NOPE..you will have the same Luck of the Draw as a person buying a Handi-Rifle.

While I too have seen my share of accurate (sub MOA) Handis, Contenders, and Encores I cannot agree with this statement. Break barrles are a neat idea and quite versatile- but they come with there own set of unique issues- more times than not.  Far more issues than a bolt or even todays autos. You wont see many- if any break barrels in the competitions for shooting the tiny groups.  Not saying that they can't do it, but its a lot easier in general to get a bolt to shoot in the .20s at 100yds than a break barrel.

This is about price comparison- and maybe personal preference. $360 for ANY handi is way to rich for my taste in a Handi.  However, If you love to tinker and tweek (which is probably what you arte going to have to do with a Handi), then go for it.

I have also discoverd that bolts seem to like more bullet and powder combos than the break barrels. At least in my experience.
It's all a hot mess...........

Swift One...you mixing 2 different things my friend. The OP nor myself is talking about competition accuracy,so I wasn't even considering that aspect, although there are many Handi's that can compete in a Sportsman's class quite easily shooting in the low 2's consistently. Since I qualified that statement prior with (There isn't 1 bolt action that will actually give you 100% accuracy guarantee out of the box..none will unless you spend a whole boat load of money on them ) my statement is very true. I can quite easily have a real sweet tack driving bolt gun with a real guarantee for how accurate it is,simply by forking out the cash for one of these..

from here..http://www.longrangehunting.com/lrr/index.php..but,as you see it is going to cost a great deal more than any Handi Rifle..

I do agree with you in 1 way,to get the most out of any rifle (unless it is a full custom built one ) you most likely are going to have to put some type of effort into making it happen.Handi-Rifles aren't alone in this regard...and yes Handi's do sometimes need some TLC to make them work, but I've spent just as many hours tweaking loads and skim bedding the stocks,or even changing stocks and recoil lugs, not to mention adding Timiney or Jewel triggers to many a bolt gun to accomplish the same durn thing. In the end,you get out of them what you put into them.Simple as that..

Sure they do..just like Weatherby and a few others as well..but it still is a crap shoot wither you will get one to shoot 1 moa consistently every time.My gun dealer gets plenty of the Tika's returned and sent back in,just as he did with the Weatherby Vanguards because of this.

I kinda look at those guarantees like I do the MPG "estimates" on cars. Its all relative to the driver, can the car get the gas mileage, maybe but not if im driving it  ;D
Same with rifles can it shoot 1 moa, sure but not if im the one shooting it  :'( ;D ;D
