H&R Model 157 ????
« on: January 11, 2010, 07:56:53 AM »
Hey guys. New to this great forum but must say a bit confusing. I find it a wealth of information. Great site!! When I punched up H&R Model 157. Nothing showed up. I bought this 157 new back in the 1980s. It is not a rebuild. Just wondering why it is not disscused.  Cal. 30-30  barrel is 22"  Mannlicher stock. Any comments welcome. Thanks, reclusej

Pretty gun, second Mannlicher stock I've seen today.
Very useable caliber also.

Oh and welcome to the forum.

Welcome! The 157 was only made 1975-1983 by H&R Inc that went out of business in 1986, they're discussed occasionally and are highly regarded, it's one of the oldies, but goodies.  ;)

It is one of only two H&Rs that I own the other being a former .22 Hornet now made into a .25-20.

I don't have one, but I like it!

Now there's another gun to put on my bucket lest..... I see they make it in 22 Hornet and 30-30. Does anyone have it in something else?

They also made it in 22mag for about a year or so, 1976-77, but I've never seen anyone report on one, Hornet and 30-30 are the only other factory offerings according to the Blue Book of Gun values.

Mine is a Hornet with a very odd BBxxxx ser# and a 1-16 twist bbl it sports a vintage Weaver V8 2.5-8 scope with the external windage and elevation knobs and the way before it's time triplex retical very cool set up that is also a killer still need to finish the brass trigger gaurd though. Kurt

I was looking at a model 157 in 22 Hornet that looks like it needs to be rescued and have a couple questions I did not take the time to really look it over but will before making an offer on it.
It looks like it was well used but not beat up, it has camo tape on the stock and some (75%) of the bluing (although I can and would prefer to parkeriz it) if the bore looks good etc.

1 I think it had a short pull, can a full size stock be purchased for this rifle?
2 what would be the best guest at its value?

PS love the forum and am glade to be here!
