Turkey season?
« on: January 26, 2010, 06:12:33 PM »
My trigger finger is itching.  Is it turkey season yet?

I hope to be home in a week or so and will need some time-off to rest and recouperate. Well, mostly to decompress.

Can I shoot anything right now?  Is turkey season the next open season? It's in March, right?

Thanks, Dinny

I don't hunt Turkey but about a week ago on the drive from Tampa up here I saw a bunch out in a field. Can't remember what state.

About 2 weeks ago there were 15 walking beside my house about 20 feet from my living room window. I tried to show my wife and the Beagle saw them out the window and barked and they all flew into the woods next to my house. That was pretty neat to see. I wanted to watch them a bit :(

Get back safe, they'll be waitin on ya. ;D

Don't forget we are coming into shed season...  some of the bucks have already let go of them. There is a lot deer movement this evening. They must be getting ready for the snow on Friday, I suppose...
Sometimes its just good to get out and see what's going on in the deer woods... I like to get out after the snow has been down for a couple days and check out the tracks...

have a safe trip

Thanks guys!  I haven't been home for 60 days yet and off I am to help out with something else. I'm at the Florida State EOC (emergency operations center) in Tallahassee now. The State has asked that I play the liasion role here between them and my unit in IL. We'll see how long this lasts, I may be here until Turkey Season..... :-\

Thanks, Dinny

If you dont want to hang in Florida, I can com down and do the Liason job for ya. I think I could deal with their weather over ours for a few months. ;)

I believe we have some Gray Beard members down that way. Maybe you can hook up and do a little hunting while your there.

Before I could even spell GBO, they yanked me out of Florida. They must have heard that the Governor was coming to see me and they didn't want him to get an earful. ;) ;D ::)

I'm back home now.  :)

Thanks, Dinny

My new nickname is "the magician" here one second gone the next. I'm going back to FL now that we have resumed taking Haitians again for treatment.

Wish me luck, this is one of the most challenging assignments/tasks I have ever had.

Thanks, Dinny

Well, I sure hope y'all have left me a turkey to shoot.  I'm coming home this weekend and hope to bag one. I won't have another chance until next year, wish me luck!

After the rain finally ended, I got a turkey!  There were a few nights this weekend I thought it would be faster to swim back to the house than walk. I toughed it out and this morning a gobbler silently walked to within range of my decoys and got the hammer.  He weighed 19.5lbs, beard was 11" long and spurs were 26mm. I decided he was a keeper so I didn't turn him back. ;D

See my daughter posing with two other turkeys? LoL  ;D :D

EDIT: Sorry for the crappy pics, I will find out why they came to me so small. ???

Thanks, Dinny

Nice bird,  A proud PAPA & a great looking little lady.

Here in Steuben Co. saw a lot of birds before season. Almost ran over a couple during patrol. During the season did not see a one. Talk with several hunters and they came up empty. Thats hunting.

Keep up the good work on all that you do.
