Scope base screw size
« on: May 13, 2010, 03:09:27 PM »
I am wanting to mount a scope base on my barrel but the screws that hold the base in place are a tad bit too long I need to know what size they are so when I shorten them I can get a nut or a thread chaser to clean up the threads. TIA Nim

go to sears or any place that sells a lot of tools and get a thread pitch gauge.that will tell yu the threads per inch or tpi.then go to a hardware store and get a nut the same size if yu can, screw it on and then cut off the screw with a jewlers saw or slowly grind off the excess, being sure to keep the screw cool to not lose any temper it may have.i like then to hit the end of the screw with a belt sander and round off the screw end, then screw off the nut and it should be ready to go.a actual die is usally too thick for these jobs.
