I'd like a hip holster that's good for a 6" S&W K frame. Can you recommend a good, not too expensive, leather holster? I already have an Uncle Mikes hip holster for the gun, and I just don't like it.

If you get in and out of vehicles at all, I'm afraid you are going to be disappointed with any hip holster. I would look at the various pancake style holsters for something that can be worn in a semi-crossdraw/semi-shoulder position, somewhat like the original Roy Baker pancakes. The one for my K22 has 5 slots for various carries and will never be for sale. In the semi-shoulder position, the cylinder needs to ride about 3" or so above the belt. A regular crossdraw is a possibility if you can find one that will ride comfortably about half way between your navel and front point of your pelvis. Triple K has many styles with great quality for the money. Order a number of catalogs then check prices with someone like http://www.natchezss.com. Don't overlook El Paso Saddlery, Galco and even K L Null.

Bianchi or Safari Land. I own and use both. Excellent quality and fit at a reasonable price. I have them for all length S&Ws as I never get rid of one once I get my hands on it. Picked up a like new used one for the 6" last year I guess it was for about $20 or so as I recall.

Hunter is a lower priced alternative that isn't as nice but is quite serviceable.

Questor, assuming you are going to use this for field use and overall field carry, I will definately go with GrayBeard's suggestions for a Bianci or SafariLand. I've had both for over 25 years and still have them. If I find a used one in a bin somewhere that willfit one of my handguns, it is mine. HTH. Mikey.

Questor, I'm with you. It seems like someone could or should make an outdoorsmans holster. My ideal one would be of a straight drop (so it could be carried on either hip), single loop (so it would fit any belt your wearing), supported trigger guard ( for a little more safety) and lined to protect your finish. Something like what Lawrence out in the pacific north west used to make. Sad to see some of those older craftsmen go out of business or pass away.
