NIB 45 70 Buffler Classic, Wesson & Harrington, just came home with me today.  Been in the safe of a gun shop in TX for 10+ years, never had sights installed, I checked and the W&H BCs where sold new w/o sights back in the "day".  I haven't decided on sights yet but I am very tempted to remove the 3 filler screws and mount a rail & 4 12 40 Redfield and try out some Bruiser Reloads,  (thanks Mac).  Better fill the stock with lead shot first and go get my buddies Lead Sled.  BIG GRIN! ;D

Another glutton for punishment :o ::) :o ;D  Nice find Tom.  Good luck with that baby.  My buddy, Wayne in Florida found one in similar condition about a year ago.  I don't think he's even shot it yet.

FWIW, I mounted an old EP Weaver 2.5 with the ranging crosshairs on my 38-55 TM. and my UH lam stockset. It handles and works great. I think I will put a hunting front sight on and the Williams open rear 'just in case'. I like the recent posts about using the long rail and more eye relief scope, but, hey , Im dancin' with who I brung.

The stock will last forever if a person uses a little common sense and doesn't load the sled with too much weight, the sled has to move some, or the stock will give way eventually. Those that load the sled up so heavy so it's almost immovable have had problems with stock failures. On heavy kickers, I only put 15-20lbs of sand bags on the sled, then tie a light nylon rope to the front of the sled, the other end of the rope is tied to the table leg around the front of the bench so the sled can move back as the rope stretches, kind of a shock absorber, works pretty darn good, and the sled never works its way off the back of the table which is a bit surprising when shooting.  :o ;D

10-4 on not trashing the BC furniture and receiver.  I put the 32" barrel on a different receiver with laminate stocks and mounted a 4 12 40 scope.  Range early next week.   Should be a 45 120 in a month.

I put a 22" 45 70 barrel with iron sights on the BC receiver and stock set.  Looks neat, probably just shoot low velocity cast lead so I don't have to mess it up on a sled or put a slip on pad on the stock.

How luckey you are that the barrels and receivers are swapping around like that. I would bet the TD Springfield loads will be fine in your carbine version w/o a slip-on.

Will work on pics, I do better with guns than cameras.

520 grain postels on top of about 28 grains of H4198 for the carbine.  I shoot the same bullets with up to 36 grains of H4198 out of my 18.5" 45/70 with a pad so this load should be light enough.

I guess I left out a couple of details, I had to fit the 22" barrel to BC frame, but it was already shimmed so no big deal, remove the shim and about .003 from the pivot and I am golden.

The 32" barrel needed a .004" shim and even I am not dumb enough to glue a shim to a BC barrel.  I made a long bent shim that stays on the pivot pin of the receiver so the barrel isn't modified.  I will be taking my feeling gage to the range and checking clearance before each shot until I am sure this idea works. :P

Ya that works, just press the shim along a sharp 90* corner (like a table) and it'll roll real nice,,
 Just don't forget it's there when a try another barrel,,Ask how I learned THAT!.. ::)
Actually, part of that lesson was,,Adhesive takes up about .001 when ya glue a shim to the lug.

Should be quite the 'purposeful' 45-120!

Just ordered the 45 120 reamer.  Have about 3 dozen loaded rounds ready to go.  Hopefully will get the 45 120 up and running by the end of next week. ;D

Glad there was all the posting regarding loads, pressures, stresses etc. in the last couple of weeks.  Probably helped lend a touch of sanity to my 45 120 reload program.  Also, helped me with my 45 70 loading; did ya'll know there are such things as Trapdoor Loads for a 45 70? ::)  Made me a batch of very tame & fun plinkers for my open sight 45 70.

PS:  Man those photos really bite!  Next time someone wants a pic I am going to have my 12 year old do it, no more cameras for me.
