How Do I Get Rid of These Varmints?
« on: March 25, 2010, 02:42:11 PM »
They are like big crows destroying my trees. Does that mean I can kill them as nuisance birds ;D They just keep coming to visit ::)

OK, here's  the procedure.  Dig a trench about 3' deep and leave one end closed, slope the other.  Place chicken wire over it.  Put a trail of corn leading in, and a pile at the end.

2nd.  Remove birds from trap.

3rd.  Cut out breast's.

4th.  Ship to me on dry ice. :D

PS,  if you are a game warden in GA., I just moved. ???

I do not think there is any laws about getting rid of "pests". WARNING - your definition of pest may be a little different than the IDNR. :D

You poor fella. I think the tree huggers association would say it is time to sight in a shotgun. If you can set up a small target, one to the left and one to the right of tree. They say the target and the banging type noise will spook them away ;)

I've had the same problem.  2 winters ago I had to shoo the things off the cover of my hot tub on the back porch.  They scratched out the seed corn and beans from my freshly planted garden last spring.   >:(   Had to replant everything the next day.  Only way I could keep them away for a long time was to let one of my dogs run all night, otherwise they wouldn't stay out in the field or over in the woods where they belong.  I guess coyotes don't like em either cause we got plenty of them too.

I always get a good laugh when i think about the guys who spend big bucks on all the goodies the market offers to hunt these things when the hardest part of it is trying to keep from steppin on the blasted things.   ;D   Guess I just don't understand city folk.   ;D

There is always the old argument that you were in fear of your life and claim self defense. They look threatening to me.

All right, I have a backhoe but don't want to dig any trenchs in my yard.
I don't think I can wait a month.
They are pestering my dogs.
I hope they stay out of my garden after I plant it.
If I get a hot tub and fill it with oil will it get hot enough to fry them?
They were just here again and my wife screamed and is really frightened.
I have my 410 by the door & could take a head or two off at this range.
They are kinda neat to watch up close.
They better quit eating my expensive mulch.
That's my story and I'm sticking with it OFFICER!

Try setting up a Turkey blind within shooting range and a few decoys.
That has alway seamed to work keeping them away from me.  ;D

Place was covered up with them during deer season.

I have the solution! put a BBQ next to the tree. If they persist, try a little lead poisoning. I here if you do it right if wont effect humans.

Now that's just plain funny!!!! :D :D :D

And I also think they are neat to watch up close.  They remind me of a predatory dinosaur.  And when they come to a turkey decoy doing the "Drunken Run" I cant help but laugh inside.....just before I make the firing pin slam into the primer! ;)
It's all a hot mess...........

I suspect they are coming for something other than mulch? are you putting corn there? If so stop and they will go away.If you shoot at them I think the Game warden has heard all the stories. But if you tell the Game warden one story he has never heard he may cut you some slack ;Dck or keep up what you are doing and wait till it's legal to shoot them. Varmit I don't think so. Lou
