I am quite sure it was a powder manufacturing facility that blew up.

Your both right! It was the Black Mag Industries Powder Plant, a subsidiary of MDM Muzzleloaders. MDM bought the rights to Black Mag a few years back.

I talked to Laurie at Black Mag this morning to offer my condolences. As of yet she doesn't know of a fund set up to help the families of those affected.  She also told me about a reporter on wmur news that identified a muzzleloader as a gun with a barrel with an end like a trumpet that you stuff ammunition down
he sounds quite informed?   this is going to be bad for all of us because i am sure the national media   will eat this up

I was in the hobby when this was the headlines.....

On our local news the other night they said that the 2 men that were killed were making blackpowder pellets.

At one time they were making a compressed powder/bullet combination, I no longer see it on their website. They also have a NEW Black Mag'XP formula that has been out for a year or so, and a new Black Mag Flash formula for priming flintlock pans. Another product called Lightning Loads is a 100 gr equivalent that is packaged in tubes.

They may have been trying to make a new pelleted powder, I have read that back in January another guy received some injury from a machine flashing in his face. It said that that fire was quickly extinguished. Sounds like a dangerous process?
