2nd Ghog of the season down
« on: May 17, 2010, 06:03:48 AM »
Sorry, no pics this time.  I was walking a field trail scouting for a place to put my steel targets for shooitng when a female GHog popped right out of her hole oblivious to my presence about 20yds away.  I ws carrying my 22mag and put a snap shot on her right in the head.  Believe it or not I had to give her a finishing shot.  One tough critter.  i was sh***y that I didn't have my camera!!!! >:(  Gonna shoot a couple more Hogs with the CCI hollow points to see if they are going to be up to the task.  Might have to switch to the TMJs.
It's all a hot mess...........

Don't shoot them all ;D
Good, Quick shooting. They can be tougher than you'd think.
Tell us more about those steel targets. I have a couple good sized 1/2"+ steel plates. About 4x4 or 5x5. Have to move them with the backhoe. Don't know if my cutting torch will cut that thick.

I am using R/R tie plates.  I cant seem to come across some plates of steel.  They work pretty good.

Swift, I found a third piece about 3' square I'd send you but shipping might be a killer. We used to have a steel place that you could buy all kinds of scrap steel for cents per pound. Last time I was there, a few years, they had a lot less of a selection and was a bit higher priced. Since metal went up I'd bet it is costly now.
I used to buy sheets and re line the beds of my dump trucks. It was quite reasonable 25 years ago.

Do you just shoot the rr plates or cut them into cute little animal shapes ;D
