A Picture From Yester Year
« on: June 04, 2010, 07:14:13 PM »

CIRCA 1934 - "It is interesting to note that sights are evident on four of the six bows".

Now personally I can't get the picture large enough to see any pins, but where I got it from they say that there are.

Sights or not all them guys looked confused, OK we got him now what do we do?   ??? Or since they aren't looking at the camera, they all got to the deer at the same time thinking this is going to be one heck of a fight. He's mine, no he's mine, no way he's mine. :o Any way it's a great pic, thanks for sharing.

The bow on the far right definitely has an old fashioned sight above the grip. It's always perplexed me why so many Trad shooters get so up tight about sights on Trad bows, been done for a very long time. Wish I could recall where so I could back myself up but I remember seeing an old photo of a Native American bow with a stick bound onto the upper limb. Caption with the photo mentioned it was believed to be a sight pin set up for shooting from a rock blind to a game trail.

Its amazing what you can do with a strip of leather, brass nail, leather knot or bone marker.  I personally don't have them on my bows, but they are as traditional as they were found on bows of the 1800's.  But using a longbow or recurve to hunt with your cant the bow, so I never saw a use for markers on my traditional bows.

Yep, and not a one of them in camo either, imagine that  ::)  I know of two other old salts that were quite successful not wearing camo either.  Fred Bear, Howard Hill and Byron Jones to name a few  ;D

Kewl pictures!!!!!

On the sight question, a lot of ole timers would glue or tape a match stick on their bows for a sight.  I saw some that did that when I was a kid just gettin started.

I am finding that green & brown plaid shirts & jackets are every bit as effective as the latest most expensive cammo! You will be amazed at how well a solid green or brown wool vest blends into the woods too!  ;)
