USBR Matches?
« on: May 10, 2010, 01:47:53 PM »

It's been quite a few years since I've owned a Contender but I'm thinking of giving it a try again. Our local club hold U.S. Bench Rest Matches that I've been shooting with a bull barreled 10/22 rifle. I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried these matches with a .22 Contender?

Would one of the rimfire barrels shoot 1/4" @ 25 yards?

            thanks,

I have a 23" full bull match barrel. I primarily use it as a squirrel and rabbit rifle. It shoots amazingly well with the cheap red box Federal American Eagle ammo. Off of my good bench rest, I'm sure I'd be right around the 1/4" mark at 25 yards with that cheap ammo. I've never really tried any "good" match ammo out of this barrel to see how accurate I can get it to shoot. But I can tell you I have no problems what so ever center punching a squirrel out of a tree top at ranges past 50 yards, with the first shot.

I have the scope zero'd at 50 yards on mine, and can easily cover a 5 shot group with a quarter with that cheap ammo at 50 yards. Assuming a calm day at the range.

It makes a great small game carry rifle, the weight and balance are perfect with that barrel and a walnut stock set.

I have a 12 inch Bullberry that will shoot into 1 inch  at 100 yds with bulk pack Federals .In the point threes  at 50 yds with some of the better stuff.

I own a couple of 22lr Match barrels...2 by MGM and another by BullBerry. Pictured below is my 14inch 22lr Match by MGM and the target shot with it @ 50yds.

My club shoots USBR, but no handgun catagories. I use a G2 with factory 14" match barrel and a Weaver T36 scope in Sporter class. I shoot consistant 215 to 220. I don't come in first very often, but second or third are pretty much mine. It upsets the rifle boys somewhat but that is half the fun.
I was not born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could.

Thanks Hafast, that's exactly what I was wondering. Just how competitive can a T/C be against the rifle guys.
