Some friends, some braggin', and a 41 magnum

:D     Recently put together another Contender configuration, completely from this website alone.  Thank you, Graybeard Outdoors!  Patience pays off, I found a forend for sale from a member, shooter(handle name).  Then ordered a Super 14 barrel in 41 Remington Magnum caliber from Ed's TC.  Ed has always been great to me, no matter where we meet. This time strictly e-mail and regular mail.

Thanks and special fondness to all that helped me create this one.

That's my list of credits, Ron.

PS: I'm one real happy handloader now!!

I have an extensive collection of 10" barrels, thought I'd move up to a Super 14. There's a little more difference than I thought, sights are better for one.  I'll try it out for load development for a Ruger Blackhawk and some hunting loads.  If I get the 10" scoped urge, I can build that too.
Just thought a little more velocity and sight radius may help.

That looks good, especially for a .41 Mag fan like me.

I had a complete blued Contender with a 10" .41 Mag barrel and red dot scope. I got the wants for a 1911 I could shoot in competition so I let the Contender go, and I got top dollar for it. I havealways kicked myself for letting the barrel go!

I bought a 10" .44 mag barrel to take to Ohio for their gun season and just the other day a casual friend that I shoot Longbows with asked me "don't you like .41 Mags" I said I certainly do and he asked if I had a .44 Mag to swap even with, I said heck yes!
We live a good ways apart and with no upcoming bow shoots to see each other, we may do the mail thing. I will be thrilled to have a .41 Contender again and I won't let this one go.

:D  Frank, I became a fan of the 41 mag as soon as I shot a friends'.  Went cruisin' the web and was told that the 45 is biggest, 44 is biggest and fastest, and the 41 is the biggest, fastest, with best twist rate for light recoil.  Looked it up, and sure enough the TC and Blackhawk both have the same twist rate.  So much for the homework, it is as good as it sounds.
As many men have said before I, this fine old cartridge should never have to make a comeback.  I've just started into it, never had it before. Think I'll love the Super 14 because the sights are great.  I haven't been into Contenders all that long but, I'm finding it a great time-honored line of hunting pistols.  Trade a 44 off for a 41 mag? Sure I would!  Egos aside, no reason not to when you handload.

Great looking setup!  The .41 Mag is an effective deer getter!  I used one last year to take two bucks in one morning when they came in after a hot doe.  One dropped in its tracks, the other ran about 75 yards or so.  I'm using 210 gr JSP's and W296.  Have fun with the new toy!

:)  Thanks, Darrell!  If I'm counting correctly one is an eight pointer for sure.  I have to admit just a tinge of jealousy too, that stainless easy-open surely looks good to me.  Nice pistol.
That's a great hunting photo, something to be proud of.
