Little Bowfishing this Afternoon
« on: April 26, 2010, 07:11:10 PM »
The river south of town where I occasionally duck hunt was a few feet over flood stage with the recent rains:

So I waded around trying to shoot the biggest buffalo I could sneak up on:

Four of the buffalo were over 15 lbs with the biggest right at 20.  The big gar was 17 lbs, a personal best for me.

River's coming up fast and should be in flood stage by the time I'm done with court tomorrow afternoon.  Maybe I'll have some more pictures Monday ;)

those buffalo are some strong fish.   you can definately tell when you hit one versus a carp.   i havent bowfished in years, and one of my goals is to get out this year.

I find it strangely addictive.  It's mindless fun, like dove hunting, only during a time of the year when I don't have much else to do.  An ipod with good tunes, some swim trunks, some old shoes, and shooting.  What's not to like?

If you're within driving distance of east-central Kansas I'll show you a hot spot Saturday.

a very generous offer, but i am no where near.    bowfishing is something all onto itself.  a strange cross between hunting and fishing.  all it takes is one good day and a guy is hooked.  i started when i was just a kid.  oh the times i had.

I made it out on Sat as well.  This pic is of a pile of 27 of the slimmy little dudes.  Shot a total of 53 that day.  It was a good day.
If God did not intend for us to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat???
