Almost got my elk last night...
« on: March 03, 2010, 03:06:51 AM »
We almost died last night on the way back from Kallispell.  Right before dark and just after dusk at about 65 miles an hour suddenly in front of me is a herd of elk. By time I got stopped there was only one old cow still standing in the road, about 4 inches from my hood. Sucked my skivvy drawers for sure.

Lots of trips to Kallispell coming up...80 year old Mom in Law who has smoked since age 14  or age 16 depending on who she told the story to, has been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer.  6 weeks of chemo and radiation coming up.

Jon, you may be hearing from me.

Sounds like a little pucker factor there! I hope all goes well with your mother in law.

Douglas sorry to hear that your mom in law will have to go thru this, and this was not the way to grill elk BTW.  Glad you did not smack one for sure.  I changed my cell number and don't believe you have the new one yet, give me a PM if you want it.

I grilled a couple Of does with a 62 VW..... The bug lost the first round and thank goodness the second one just bounced off the windshield and didn`t end up in my lap. Best to MIL..  Gary
If you want it destroyed right, call in a B-52

Hit one deer in  Flathead country while I lived there.
One time traveling back thru Wyoming I was driving 90mph @ 1AM on a moonlit night in the Wind River range.
My bro in law awoke and wanted to drive so we stopped in the road to flip drivers.
when he started up I told him to keep it at 65 since he just got since license. As soon as he got to 65 a cow elk was staning in the road. Had I been doing 90 ..............God be priased!

The deer I hit was when I lived in Bigfork. Smacked him[ bout 200 pounder] at 55 and he was knocked to the ditch. GOT UP and ran away, my car needed front end.

Came around a corner outside Libby once in a motor home in 80' when we went out to scope the area for movin.
A huge moose was standing in the road eating about 20 pounds of clumped grass and sod hangin from his mouth . Can't imagine hittin him!
