Nicholst55,
I have a total of five shots down the tube of my 45 120 so no expert here, but the change in recoil alone is worth the rechamber. I shot 535 grain lyman postels on top of H4198. I shot this same bullet, on top of 10 grains less H4198, out of this same gun, before the rechamber (45 70) and the gun really slapped me when I shot it. Now as a 45 120 it was just a big push, no slap.
Tim,
Thanks for the target pic. I have been looking for 5744 locally for a while now but it has not been available. I usually end up shooting the Hodgdon powders because they are easier to find.
Note: on the H4198. I used standard Win LR primers, not magnums, and this powder charge leaves a lot of "air" in the case but the gun still ignited just fine. Also, no crimp, as I don't have my dies yet. Maybe a good crimp and the gun will buck a little more?
