411 on "NO EXCUSES" bullets in .45 cal.
« on: November 19, 2003, 07:04:23 AM »
I have an Encore in .45 cal, 1 in 28 twist. I'm considering ordering a box of these bullets to try and am wondering if anyone here has any experience with them in .45 caliber, and what weight was it you used with which powder and charge weight. Also what manufacturers primer.
Just so you know which bullets I'm talking about.....

Thanks.

I use the 460 gr NE's out of my White M98 (the NE's were originally designed to be used with Whites). I get great accuracy (under 1" at 100 yrds consistently) with 80gr of 777 2f or 95gr of Pyro P, with a RWS #11 cap or musket cap.

I think you might have problems w/the QLA and conicals mixing. Others have tried with conicals with very limited success, after they had the QLA removed it became limited success.

Robbie,
Thanks for the reply and the information. I was planning on possibly cutting off the QLA and refacing the barrel with a target crown anyway. Because I don't think that the very edge of the rifling is square on this particular barrel as it is right now.
The only problem with a target crown is the sharp edge, which may cause a problem starting sabots. I would have to just ever so slightly break the edge, perpendicular to the bore of course.

Thanks again.

I have an Encore in .45 cal, 1 in 28 twist.

I had no luck with my .45 Encore barrel, and the QLA is no factor.

My White 98 .451 has a closer tolerance barrel critical to heavy pure lead conicals, and a 1:20 twist that can stabilize them properly. A 330-360 grain conical bullet is a far better choice for a 1:28 twist.

Jagzeit,
I had a similar problem finding what my encore liked also.
Actually still looking...my white 50 also liiked those rounds as did randy's.
I think the answer you are looking for will be found at the zen moment
of quad completion.

Thanks for all of the replies guys. :D
I am looking for the "zen moment of quad completion". :-D
I called there and left a message for the guy to call me back. I want to pick his brain a bit and see what he also says. I still have a few weeks to play till MZL season starts here in NYS.
