Spare parts for a 19
« on: May 23, 2010, 06:48:36 AM »
I want to put together a set of spare parts for my 19. Springs and things. What are the most commonly replaced parts on a Glock 19? Basically, if you were to put together a spare parts kit, what would you put in it? I want to use all OEM parts. Thanks for your time.

Trigger return spring used to be the most common part to fail in Glocks, but you don't hear much about it anymore, but still, they're cheap.
Pins (all three in case you loose one), extractor, extractor plunger, plunger spring, and the little nub on the end of the plunger spring.
Recoil spring ass'y, take down latch and spring, (not the right name) mag release and spring.
Stash a new magazine and leave it unused.

To Hammerheads list I'd add a striker and spring, especially if you intend on dry firing.  Probably wouldn't hurt to add a magazine spring or two either.

The most important, 'MUST HAVE' spare part for a Glock is the Slide Lock Spring.  If it goes your pistol is going to be a brick.  Parts that commonly break include:  trigger springs, slide stop springs, and firing pin safety springs.

The all plastic recoil guide rods are known to pop their heads off.  I have no idea how well, or not, the new metalized rods are holding up?  I, also, like to keep a few extra spring loaded bearings around because that's the part you're most likely to watch go flying across the room during slide assembly/disassembly.

I keep all the rest of a Glock's internal parts around too; but none of them are needed very often and none will permanently stop the gun if they break.  (A broken trigger spring will not stop a Glock; you can get by without it.)
